PBC League - Round 1
About this event
Open play in Berlin is good. It’s why most of us play as much as we do. What open play doesn’t do is carry over: next week starts again from nothing. The PBC League does carry over. It’s a season that runs from November to May and keeps score the whole way. What’s a box league? You and your partner are placed in a box: a small group of five or six pairs at a similar level. Over six weeks you play every other pair in your box once. That’s one round. Every result goes into your box’s table. At the end of the round, the top two pairs move up to the box above and the bottom two move down to the box below. Then a new round starts, with new opponents at your new level. Boxes stack into divisions (Bronze, Silver, Gold), so over a season you can climb from one division into the next. How a round works 4 or 5 matches, depending on whether your box has five or six pairs. Best of three games to 11, win by two. You arrange every match yourselves through the in-app match chat, at times that suit both pairs. There are two fixed league nights in round 1 if you want them, but they’re not mandatory and nothing else in the league is tied to a set evening — so nothing to miss if your week falls apart, and nothing that clashes with the open plays you already come to. You book the court yourselves. League players get 25% off in the discount windows: Monday–Friday 09:00–16:00 Sunday 18:00–23:00 Results go to DUPR every week. League nights Round 1 has two fixed league nights at the club: Sunday 8 November and Sunday 13 December, 18:00–20:00. We hold the courts for the league, you turn up, and you play off whatever you still owe. Perfect if a match has been hard to schedule, and a good excuse to get everyone in one room. Included in your entry, no court fee on the night. Neither one is mandatory. Arrange all your matches yourselves if you prefer — the league nights are there to help, not to replace. Divisions and placement Season one has three divisions: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Platinum and Diamond open as the league grows. Each division has several boxes, depending on how many of you sign up. Pairs are placed by their combined DUPR. Unrated pairs start in Bronze, and the league gives you a rating. The season Round 1: 2 November – 13 December (league nights: Sunday 8 November and Sunday 13 December, 18:00–20:00) Winter break: 14 December – 3 January Round 2: 4 January – 14 February Round 3: 15 February – 28 March Round 4: 29 March – 9 May Gala: after round 4 You sign up one round at a time.
